Reading USFS 1919 was a bit long for me, but I liked the overall plot of the whole thing. In the beginning it was hard to stay focused and keep reading, but as the story went on it got more interesting. I think the author used too much detail in spots that could have been summed up in one sentence or just one page. Although playing cards and all the detail and story lined he used was interesting to see, I don’t think really it would have been that great without that much detail.
This story was really catching to me because of this 17 year old boy who has been working for the United States Forestry for 3 years already. As he is becoming a man and turning 18 he wants to really show his boss basically he can handle the forest and wants to impress him. All of this I can relate to because there are times in my life and people who I really want to impress and gain their friendship so I can see where he is coming from. Every now and again Bill (His boss) teaches him little tricks of back packing, because everyone knows who Bill is and knows he is the best mountain packer in that region.
Well to go on to the end of the book it starts getting more interesting and more in to depth of what the story is really about. In the end the boy wants to impress Bill by walking to the town where the poker game is going to be which is 35 miles away. Well he does it and makes it to the town right before the game is going to begin which doesn’t mention if Bill is really impressed or not. But he makes it all tired and dehydrated before the game starts which is not good since they know there is going to be a fight. Bill wants to sweep the town and take everyone’s money at the poker game, well in short the boy gets knockout for a while and is lying on the ground dazed while bill is getting the money and fighting people.
In the end it tells that Bill was impressed and asked if the boy wants to come back another season of work which he says yes to but doesn’t really know what he is going to do. I think the main plot for this book was showing the boy growing up and making his own decisions for himself. There was a lot of detail in sentences and paragraphs because it was necessary for him to show all that was going on around the boy. It was a great novel and a great way to show a narrative book. I really liked how it ended and showing the boy growing up and making decisions for himself and not for Bill (who sounded like a real mean guy throughout the whole book). I could really relate to this book and can take it into my daily life for making decisions for me.

Good summary. I'm glad that you liked it, but I would have liked some details as to why. I'm really interested in your reaction, particularly since it changed as the book went on. What grabbed you here? Make sure to give that kind of specific information in future blog entries, please.
